Mission Moment #4

Today I am featuring one of my dear friends @hannah.ledbetter Although, we have known each other for a long time I didn't really get to know her until I went on a mission trip with her. She is kind hearted and will always make you smile. I hope you enjoy her mission story!

When Summer first reached out to me and told me she would like to feature me as the mission moment for this month, while I was excited, I honestly had no idea what I would talk about. I’ve been on two mission trips, one in the states, and one internationally. My last mission trip, which was to Costa Rica, truly impacted me the most. What stood out the most to me on this trip was how even though I did not speak the same language as the people we were ministering to, the LOVE that was there did not need a translation. The children that we ministered to did not care that we could not speak the same language or that we may not have looked like them, but by the love they showed us, it truly ministered to me and allowed me to think of missions in a whole new light. Since then, my motto has always been “be the light.”

In Matthew 5:14-16, it says “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

This verse is simply calling Christians to always shine the light of Christ to those around them so that through our actions alone, we can draw people in, and lead them to Christ. Just like when I was in Costa Rica, and I didn’t necessarily have the right words to minister to the people, through my actions, I was able to still minister and shine the light of Christ to those around me. I’m saying all this to say that missions can be anywhere, and simply by being a light, we can lead people to Christ at work, at school, in the grocery store, or even like so many of us are familiar with, in foreign countries, and more. I encourage everyone to be a light, because demonstrating the love and actions of Christ to those around you can be one of the greatest missions ever!
