God is Present

Writer: Summer WillinghamSummer Willingham

In the midst of a dark and hurting world, God is present. His presence is here!

The writer of Psalm 46 presents a picture similar to what our world looks like today:

"Though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling...There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God" (vv. 2-4).

Amid what looks like chaos in our eyes, amid the things that seem to be crumbling away, amid the trembling of the earth, there is a river - the presence of an Almighty God who dwells among us.

Verse 1 of Psalm 46 says, that "God is our refuge and strength"...He is "a very present help in trouble." He is not absent from our troubles, but He is "very present." He is here. He sees what we are going through, and no, He has not forgotten about us. The Bible tells us that trials and persecution will come, but it also says in His Word that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

Whatever you are going though don't lose hope! Things may never look the same. Things may look hopeless, but don't lose heart! God is here, He is still working, He is not dead, but He is alive. Open your eyes to what God is doing here and now. Don't look back on what has passed, but look ahead. As Jesus says in Luke 9:62, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." Look ahead! Cling onto the hope of Christ! Trust in the truth of His Word.

He is not finished with us, and it is not over!
